Garden Incense:
Garden Incense:
1. Combine equal parts dried yarrow, dried calendula, dried lavender, dried rose, dried mullein, dried sage, and copal resin. Blend with a pestle and mortar.
2. Prepare a dish with a base of sand or a cast iron surface like a small cauldron.
3. Light a charcoal round and place on the dish. When sparks are visible, the round is hot enough.
4. Place one tablespoon of the incense on the charcoal round until smoking.
5. Incense may burn up to one hour.
I love burning homemade incense from warm summer plants especially on this tail end of winter. There’s so many different varieties that can be made with the same steps. Personally, I always like to use a resin base (copal, frankincense, pine resin) with a drier plant like mullein to help promote a longer burn.
